Recent data from the AI Workforce Consortium reveals that job postings requiring artificial intelligence skills in the cybersecurity sector have doubled within a single year across G7 countries.
The research, compiled by recruitment firms Cornerstone and Indeed across a 24-month window from April 2024 to March 2026, indicates that 28.5% of cybersecurity job listings between October 2025 and March 2026 demanded AI competencies. This represents a significant increase from 14.2% during the same period a year prior.
According to the findings, an agentic skill stack is rapidly becoming the baseline requirement for high-volume roles such as cloud security, security engineering, and detection and response engineering. The most frequently cited competencies in AI-tagged postings include Python, prompt and context engineering, AI security, agent orchestration, and machine learning operations.
Salary data collected by Lightcast in the United States during the same six-month window indicates that the median advertised compensation for postings specifying AI skills sat 14.9% higher than the median for traditional cybersecurity postings overall. Meanwhile, overall demand for G7 cybersecurity jobs grew by 9.5% in the six months ending March 2026, with senior-titled roles surging 65.0%.
Omar Santos, a Distinguished Engineer at Cisco, noted that artificial intelligence systems are rapidly absorbing repetitive tasks like alert triaging and threat intelligence correlation. This shift transforms traditional SOC analysts into workflow orchestrators. “AI agents are approaching human-level performance in some domains and surpassing it in others,” the report stated, emphasizing that human proficiency remains critical for agent supervision and output validation.
Data also highlighted surging demand for specialized expertise, with job postings requesting ethical reasoning expanding by 533% year-over-year. In a Cisco survey of 8,000 security leaders conducted in May 2026, nearly half of respondents identified hands-on experience with AI agents as the competency hardest to find in entry-level candidates.
