Vercel Integrates Amazon S3 to Streamline Cloud Storage Provisioning

Developers utilizing Vercel for web and AI application deployment can now access Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) directly through the Vercel Marketplace and v0 by Vercel. This integration aims to simplify the cloud infrastructure workflow by allowing developers to provision and manage S3 resources without leaving the Vercel ecosystem, effectively bridging the gap between high-level application development and low-level cloud resource configuration.

The integration supports three primary S3 configurations: general-purpose buckets, S3 Tables, and S3 Vectors. By incorporating these into the Vercel dashboard, teams can manage their entire application stack—from databases like Amazon Aurora and DynamoDB to object storage—within a unified AWS account environment. This approach centralizes billing and management, allowing developers to maintain consistent oversight of their infrastructure while leveraging the performance and durability of S3.

For general-purpose workloads, the integration provides a streamlined path for storing documents, images, and other media files. More specialized storage needs are addressed through S3 Tables, which offer fully managed Apache Iceberg storage optimized for analytics, and S3 Vectors, designed to support AI-driven applications such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and semantic search. These additions allow for more efficient data handling for AI agents and large-scale analytics without requiring the maintenance of separate, complex database architectures.

A notable aspect of this deployment is the security architecture. The integration utilizes the @vercel/functions/oidc provider to exchange short-lived OIDC tokens with the AWS Security Token Service (STS). This mechanism generates temporary, scoped credentials for each resource, eliminating the need to store static access keys within the application environment. This approach aligns with modern security best practices, reducing the risk of credential leakage.

The integration also extends to v0 by Vercel, the platform’s generative AI tool. Developers can describe their application requirements—such as a PDF-based support bot or a clickstream analytics dashboard—and the system will automatically configure the appropriate S3 resources and generate the necessary boilerplate code. This capability is intended to accelerate the transition from concept to production by automating the initial infrastructure setup.

While the provisioning happens through Vercel, the underlying resources remain within the user’s own AWS account. This ensures that developers retain access to native AWS tooling for monitoring, auditing, and management. The integration is available across all commercial AWS regions supported by Vercel, with standard S3 pricing applying to all resources consumed. New AWS accounts generated through this integration are eligible for $100 in promotional credits, providing a low-friction entry point for teams looking to modernize their storage architecture.
