Kiteworks has acquired Bonfy.AI to integrate runtime data governance directly into its core security control plane.
The acquisition allows organizations to govern data exchanges at the exact moment they happen, regardless of whether the transmission is initiated by a human user, an automated machine process, or an autonomous AI agent. By moving classification and policy enforcement to the point of exchange, Kiteworks aims to secure data in motion and in use rather than relying solely on posture management tools that only catalog sensitive information at rest inside enterprise data stores.
Bonfy.AI’s technology assesses data alongside surrounding contextual factors, including the sender, recipient, counterparty relationship, transmission channel, and underlying business purpose. This evaluation occurs in real-time before an outbound transfer completes across communication channels such as email, file sharing platforms, application programming interfaces, and AI agent workflows. The combined platform applies a unified policy model to both human and machine-driven operations across major enterprise systems of record like Microsoft Outlook, Gmail, OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Workspace, and Salesforce.
“Bonfy.AI’s cutting-edge technology expands our coverage and capability to deliver the control our customers need in the AI era, and its excellent team will further accelerate the development of our unified Data Control Plane,” says Amit Toren, Chief Business Officer at Kiteworks.
The deal addresses traditional challenges in enterprise data protection by reducing false positive alerts through context-aware analysis rather than basic pattern matching. Additionally, the system generates auditable evidence for regulatory frameworks such as CMMC 2.0, HIPAA, and GDPR by documenting classification and enforcement decisions directly at the moment of decision.
“We built Bonfy.AI around a single idea: risk is created when data moves, not when it sits, and controlling it means reading the full context of an exchange at runtime, before it completes,” states Gidi Cohen, CEO of Bonfy.AI.
